Drama Audition Information
Class
A 25 minute class in which candidates will participate in warm ups and activities on character development, voice and improvisation. Candidates will be assessed on these skills, stage presence and effort.
Monologue Performance
Each applicant will be required to memorize and perform a monologue provided by St. Elizabeth Catholic High School. A choice of monologues will be shared with each applicant. During the audition, candidates may be coached to see how they work with direction. Although it is not necessary to perform the monologue in the context of the play from which it is taken, it is suggested that candidates read the whole play to understand the characterization.
Interview
Each applicant will be interviewed by the Drama Audition Panel. The purpose of the interview is to determine the candidate’s motivation, potential and suitability to the program. Applicants are encouraged to ask questions at this time.
Dress for Class and Solo Audition
Applicants should wear suitable clothes such as a track suit and soft shoes. Applicants must be able to participate in physical drama activities. No costumes please.
Note:
Grade 10 and 11 applicants will be expected to meet higher expectations. Knowledge of correct terminology is essential. A more sophisticated comfort level on stage is also required.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What do I need to prepare for my audition?
You must prepare a monologue from the given choices. The monologue must be memorized. No costumes props or accents please. Keep in mind that there will be an informal interview portion of the audition that will let us get to know you better.
If I do not audition for grade 9, can I audition the following year for grade 10?
Yes, you can audition in grade 10, but the expectations will be slightly higher as you are now expected to be at the same level as a grade 10 student who has already completed grade 9 RAP credits in drama.
