FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What media should I have represented in my portfolio?
Students are asked to have a variety of media but should not engage in media for the sake of inclusion to meet the specifications. We encourage a variety of media but would rather see a representation of their strengths. Students should include drawings created from direct live observation vs. copying from photo resources.
Should I include photography in my portfolio?
We recommend that students do not include photography within their portfolio. Every minute within the interview process is precious and we can get a very good sense of their ability to see and create composition within their drawings and the drawing exercise we ask they participate in prior to interview.
What kind of professions are connected with the visual arts?
The creative industry is broad and includes many different areas. Some of these include applied arts such as graphic design, illustration, industrial design etc. There are also the academic branches such as curation and instruction. Many artists are entrepreneurs who run their own businesses. Creativity, problem solving and independent thinking are assets in every profession and these are areas that are developed in every level of the visual arts program. The rich visual culture that we inhabit reflects our need of visual artists and creative individuals.
